Our Roots

The LA County Office of Food Systems (LAC-OFS) is a public-private partnership between the County of Los Angeles and leading local philanthropic organizations, including the Annenberg Foundation, the Weingart Foundation, and the California Community Foundation.

The LA County Board of Supervisors unanimously supported the creation of the LAC-OFS to address the root causes of food system challenges in our region, as recommended by the Food Equity Roundtable, a coalition of cross-sector organizations dedicated to advancing food justice and addressing inequities in the food system.

The Roundtable published its comprehensive strategic action plan in December 2022, based on input from more than 200 community-based organizations and 100-plus food system experts nationwide. The strategic plan features clearly defined initiatives, milestones, and outcome-driven goals, including a combination of initiatives that can be implemented in the short term and policy changes to drive improvement long term, from farm to fork, throughout the LA County food system.
