Healthy · Affordable · Fair · Sustainable · Resilient

The LA County Office of Food Systems was established as a directive of the LA County Board of Supervisors, and created through an official partnership agreement between Los Angeles County and local philanthropic organizations. The Office is dedicated to cultivating a fair, resilient, and healthy food system for all County residents. We function as an innovation hub for the County, collaborating with a diverse network of stakeholders to address food system challenges across LA County.

We envision a stronger and healthier LA County where communities have sufficient, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food supplied by a resilient and sustainable food system.

We serve as the Research & Development (R&D) engine for LA County's food system, turning innovative ideas into scalable solutions.

What We Do:

  • Shape Policy: Ensure the expertise of growers, practitioners, and community leaders directly informs policy and investment decisions.

  • Drive Action: Identify the challenges, gaps, and opportunities that require immediate attention.

  • Test & Prove: Surface promising ideas, test them through pilot programs, and build the evidence base to prove what works.

  • Scale Innovation: Design and launch new approaches to improve food access, local procurement, and community-based food infrastructure.

Toward Our North Star: There must be deep economic shifts toward a reality where at least 30% of the LA County food system contributes meaningfully to our goals for community and worker well being; environmental sustainability; and affordable, healthy food access for all.
